Every week of the school year our club provides weekend meals to students who receive free school meals. In 2025/2026 we provided 7,625 bags of food for the weekends for those in need which also included breakfast and snack for Monday mornings so they don’t come to school hungry. The program launched Thanksgiving week 2014, and has been continuously operating since 2016. Much thanks to members, school administrators, and the amazingly supportive community of Oak Harbor.

Volunteer!

Our backpack program depends on volunteer support from our amazing club members and financial support from the community at large as well as partner organizations to help it continue.

Weekly Volunteer opportunities are mainly on Thursdays with some help on Fridays when new food deliveries arrive from Costco.

Thursdays: 4 to 5 volunteers to pack the bags (less than 1hr). Each bag contains 3 breakfasts, 3 Snacks, 2 lunches, 2 fruit snacks, 2 dinners,, 3 drinks.
Thursdays: 4 to 5 volunteers to deliver the bags to all 5 schools (1 hr) Pick up Trucks or larger cars preferred and as some schools have over 40 bags delivered.
Fridays: 2 to 3 volunteers for restocking shelves and bins once the Costco delivery arrives - normally between 8 and 9am, 1 hour.
Annual Fundraising Dinner: We look for additional volunteers to organize our now annual fundraising dinner ,which last year raised almost $30,000 for the program- over half the annual costs.

Due to the school calendar there are a few weeks where we have to deviate from the normal schedule and pack and deliver Tuesdays to accommodate student days off for parent teacher conferences, holiday, emergency make up day closures,
